Episode 11
Voice of the Diversity Practitioner
Friday, May 18, 2007; 10AM (Eastern)
“You have the greatest job. I’d love to do this work – what does it take?” is one of the most common questions we hear from people who have an interest in diversity. On this episode of Diversity Matters, co-hosts Judy Seidenstein and Richard Friend discuss being “called” to the field and explore various pathways to working as a diversity practitioner.
Most often the diversity practitioner delivers education and training. What are the differences between training, education and facilitation? How does one inspire, hold people’s attention, provoke thought and discussion, and create a rich stimulating, results oriented learning experience? Can these skills be learned? In addition to training, what other roles does the diversity practitioner play? Diversity practitioners Gloria Cotton and Lisa Childs Johnson who have more than 20 years of experience in the field join Richard and Judy to discuss these and other questions.
